I was wondering---do authors/writers have just as an enjoyable experience reading a new author or new style book as we, non -authors/writers do? Or do you suppose they are constantly evaluating the book while reading. Sort of like when I have a book that needs to be reviewed. Sometimes I don't find myself enjoying a book for review asz much as i think I would have if it was pourely for pleasure.

I think it entirely depends on what your reading. If you are reading something in the same genre as what you usually write, then yes, it's guaranteed that you are comparing, even if you don't realize it. For me, I generally shout a couple of, "Why didn't I think of that?" when I am reading something similar to what I write(Time Travel Romance, in case your wondering).
