I know Dianne has read this book. Has anyone else? Was just wondering if anyone felt like discussing it.

I've looked at this several times in the store, but haven't bought it. Is it worth reading?

I haven't got around to reading it and have decided that I probably won't - not because it doesn't sound good, I've just got so much other stuff to read I'll never get around to it so you can have my copy if you want it. I'm going to either take it to the library or the used book store if you don't.

In that case, I'll take it. Although it might take a little while for me to finish it, too. I'll PM you my address, just in case.

lol - I'm trying to reduce my TBR pile without having to take extended sick leave like when I broke my ankle.
At least now it won't be gathering dust.

I picked up a cheap copy and thought it was okay. Meh out of 5.

There were some interesting bits of mythology and most of the secondary characters were ace (especially Simon, Alec and Magnus - and kudos for having a gay character in a YA novel where their sexuality was not the central point) but the leads were so annoying and painfully obvious self insert on Clare's behalf (Clary Fray? Really?) I do not get this love for bad boys, especially ones who's douchebag behaviour has John Mayer crying with jealousy. The romance was contrived and didn't ring true once, with the twist ending feeling tired.

Clare used to be the most famous fanfiction writer in the Harry Potter fandom. She was caught plagiarising, including stealing ideas and one entire section from Pamela Dean as well as lines from major books, films and TV shows without citation. Some research led me to find a huge piece of her book was just cut and pasted from her fanfiction (Jace is her fanfiction version of Draco Malfoy). I don't care if the rest of the books in the series are the next Discworld, I won't be supporting a woman who got a book/film/graphic novel deal from being a plagiarist.
